Defense Mission Modernization

Overview

The Department of War is undergoing one of the largest modernization efforts in its history, driven by the need to improve readiness, decision speed, and operational effectiveness.

Success increasingly depends on the ability to integrate data, AI, and modern software across distributed systems into unified mission ecosystems that deliver advantage at the speed of operations.

Challenges

  • Aging legacy systems limiting agility and scalability
  • Siloed data across operational environments and domains
  • Increasing demand for AI-enabled, real-time decision support
  • Need to accelerate secure software delivery and DevSecOps adoption
  • Growing cyber threats and requirement for Zero Trust architectures
  • Difficulty transitioning innovation from research to operational capability

Approach

ATA transforms legacy defense environments into AI-enabled mission ecosystems by integrating data, software, and advanced analytics into scalable, secure architectures. Through a combination of enterprise data platforms, DevSecOps, AI/ML, and digital engineering, ATA accelerates delivery of mission capabilities and supports real-time, data-driven operations.

Key capabilities include:

  • Research-to-Operations (R2O) and rapid prototyping

Impact

  • Faster, more informed decision-making and mission execution
  • Accelerated delivery of secure, mission-ready software
  • Improved interoperability and data sharing across domains
  • Enhanced cyber resilience and mission assurance
  • Faster transition of innovation into operational capability

Use Case: Agile Data & Analytics
Delivery for Mission Operations

Challenge

Defense organizations need to deliver mission-critical data and analytics applications rapidly while operating across complex hybrid cloud environments and maintaining security, scalability, and real-time insight.

Solution

ATA supported the Air Force’s Kessel Run software factory by delivering Agile software engineering, data engineering, and data science capabilities within a modern DevSecOps environment. ATA developed and deployed data platforms and container-native applications on the All Domain Common Platform (ADCP), enabling distributed mission planning and execution, enterprise data management, scalable machine learning toolsets, and optimization and reinforcement learning engines refueling tanker route optimization and adversarial flight simulations.

Impact

Accelerated delivery of mission applications, improved real-time operational decision-making, optimized mission planning (e.g., refueling operations), and scalable, secure data platforms that support continuous deployment and mission readiness.
