Automated Data Ingestion Pipeline Project

What A data-intensive system for analyzing supply chain logistics and managing operations for a parts distributor primarily serving an executive branch department of the federal government of the United States.
The Problem Develop a high data volume system for collecting, storing, and analyzing millions of transactions within a department’s parts distribution supply chain. Data is to be collected from a multitude of sources and at a wide range of frequencies.
The Solution The project included significant upgrades to the in-place system including automated execution of complex data ingestion pipelines and a new analytics engine that utilizes machine learning to produce predictions and optimizations of supply chains.
The Impact As part of this project, many of their most intensive daily data ingestion pipelines were automated such that data could be collected, validated, processed, and ingested into both the operational and analytics systems in a repeatable manner.

Legacy Application Upgrade

What A commercial solutions team providing mission-critical technologies to a major component of the United States air transportation infrastructure.
The Problem Petabytes of production historical data from hundreds of field sensors at major airports collecting navigation, operations, and operational data flowing through to customers through a legacy application.
The Solution Maintain the legacy sensor data collection, but break downstream dependences on the existing provider for data services and data visualization to create a modern service based architecture with new analytics (AI/ML) to support service extension and role-based services; and close critical security gaps.
The Impact ATA provides ongoing support and maintenance for the system in excess of 99.9% uptime and availability with over 99.5% data concurrency and 100% data retention, synchronizing 714 million rows of data through real time synchronization of 682Mb / day of unique messages.

The Problem The system that provides the one-stop shop for all data analysis activities, including ingestion, storage, enrichments, analytics, and resolution of operational reports required architectural updates in order to meet the increased data loads and analysis diversity associated with en-route data operations. Additionally, the system functions as both an analysis system and a user extensible computing platform, so it’s many potential uses could not be predicted and users require the ability to easily add new capabilities and functionality.
The Solution ATA developed an architecture that fulfilled known requirements and remained flexible enough to absorb future requirements with little to no changes. ATA also leveraged various techniques to uncover and exploit hidden values within the spectrum of data sets provided by the customer.
The Impact

Access to the known and hidden values provide greater insight into the customer’s network’s performance, benefits, and security; including analytics for:

  • Network operations and maintenance (reports on the monthly message latency values and 6 month trends, a breakdown of violations, the development of new system metrics and the development of new dashboards provide improved insight in the state of the network)
  • System test and evaluation (processed and visualized data collected as part of a test program with the intent of showing how the network’s RF coverage complies with requirements),
  • Performance engineering (predictions based on traffic growth, equipage projections, and other data on when the network performance will degrade, these predictions allow for proactive updates to network infrastructure),
  • Advanced analytics (leveraged machine learning techniques, integration with other information systems, and/or other advanced approaches to provide new, innovative solutions to hard problems, including security applications, safety impact, and environmental impact).
